Giant Anteater Studies in northern Brazil

Lydia Mocklinghoff from the Zoological Research Museum in Bonn, Germany is starting a study on the only stable population of the amazing Giant Anteater, which has already become extinct in Uruguay and northern Argentina. Automatic camera traps are used, and Hamerton Zoo Park is delighted to have been able to donate the funds to purchase a GPS collar, many more of which are needed.

Collecting boxes around the Park and funds raised from our Animal-Contact-Scheme allow us to take part in important conservation work in the wild as well as in captivity.

We hope that a new 'Conservation'section on this web-site will soon give more details of these projects. In the meantime further details of this one can be found at www.giant-anteater.com
