On Saturday 11th June 2011 we are holding our very first open Donkey Show at Hamerton. The resident donkeys are always here of course, Potou, Mammoth and Miniature, including several new foals born in 2011. The lastest are Poitu foal 'Bailey d'Hamerton' and spotted American Mammoth foal 'Hamerton Dakota'.
On June 11th starting at 10.30am you will be able to see the very best of other breeders animals competeing in 'in-hand' open classes for Standards, Miniatures and other breeds. The show is kindly sponsored by Thurlow-Nunn-Standen, agricultural machinery dealers and specialists in Kubota ground-care equipment, and is affiliated to the Donkey Breed Society, the UKs foremost charity working for these wonderful animals. Judging will be in the capable hands of well known donkey judge, Rosemary Clarke from Wales.
From mid-day onwards our farrier Steven Hill will be demonstrating foot-care and shoeing for the ridden donkeys. American Mammoths 'Gretna' and 'Wacissa' are in the process of being broken to ride, and we hope to take them to local agricultural shows over the summer; including the Suffolk, Royal Norfolk, East of England, Shuttleworth and Heckington amoungst others.
We hope that this will become an annual event, and all of the activites are covered by the normal entry fee to the Park.
Schedules for donkey exhibitors can be obtained by contacting the park (click the link on the left). Please send stamps or a donation towards postage of the schedule.
