Barking Owl News...

11/05/2022

Our breeding pair of Barking Owls arrived a couple of years ago from Darling Downs Zoo in Queensland, Australia. They were the first of their species to be seen in Europe for many years, and until they bred in 2020 were the only Barking Owls outside Australia.

The pair reared their first chicks that year, again a European 'first'. These two birds were a male and a female and today have moved on loan, to a specialist collection called the Scottish Owl Centre.

This move has been quite timely as our breeding pair have two more chicks hatched earlier in 2022, which have just left the nest this week. They usually spend some time on the floor of the aviary at this stage, being fed by their parents, so may be quite difficult to spot.
