Barking Owls...

Barking Owls have chicks again!
Our pair of Barking Owls, imported from Darling Downs Zoo in Queensland Australia, were (for a while!) the only specimens of their species outside Australia.
The pair bred for the first time during the peace and quiet of the first Covid lockdown, rearing two chicks, which turned out to be a male and a female, and which were sent on deposit, to the Scottish Owl Centre, earlier this year.
Last year our pair failed with their eggs being infertile and we feared they were disturbed by large numbers of visitors post lockdown; but we are delighted that this has proved not to be the case - as during an even busier spring and summer in 2022 they have bred again, with another two chicks being reared.
We have just had the results back and the latest babies are also a pair - so now Hamerton has three pairs of this owl, the only birds outside their native range - two pairs at the park here, and our pair in Scotland.
